TheFocus has received an impressive five-star safety rating from independent body Euro NCAP, despite stringent new standards. Ford certainly made a big push in active safety technology with the
Fordput out an extended warranty in response to global litigation regarding this car's transmission. You are too late to get the clutches replaced free of charge, but if the TCM (transmission control module) gives out you have 2 years/38k more miles to have it replaced under warranty.
Itcurrently has just over 100,000 miles on it. It has been to the dealer multiple times for the transmission problems. One time they “fixed” it, but it was back to hesitating and being jerky in no time. Other times I brought it in they say nothing is wrong even though it is obvious. Engine light came on several months ago but they said
TheBest and Worst Years for Ford Focus Are: Based on consumer satisfaction reviews and reliability scores, the best model years for the Ford Focus are 2004-, 2011, and 2018. These model years receive high marks for their reliability and fuel efficiency. Alternatively, the 2001-2003, 2012, and 2013 models should be avoided.
Ihave a 2012 3.5 150 at about 115k. I would rank it a 3.5/5 for reliability 5 being absolutely bulletproof and 1 being a total pile. Timing chains stretch on the early 3.5s, I think they updated the design for ‘15, but mine was stretched out by 107k. This is a
Fordclaims 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds, which would leave the Toyota for dead in the real world (0-62 in 7.6 seconds). Plus the ST sounds great. So our Ford should win – but for me, it doesn’t. I
Electricalissues could be a lot of things. These cars have kind cheap parts and the electrical wiring is no different. Cost of repairs shouldn't concern you. If it's a wiring issue, that's not too expensive typically. It could be your battery which would be $200 or your alternator which would be a similar amount.
115miles vs 230. It's a big difference, yes. But the price difference is huge too - the Focus EV is $30k, the Bolt is $37.5k. For those that don't need road trip range, the $7.5k saved could be more valuable. the bolt is 30k after federal tax credits.

Fordhas some build quality issues, but the 2.0 Ecoboost is a very solid engine. Ford uses it/variants of it in most of their lineup. There are two primary issues with boosted engines: knock and pre-ignition. Ford utilizes very robust ECU logic to make on-the-fly adjustments which negates knock extremely well.
Ihave a Focus ST, my roommate has a GTI manual and one of my close friends has the GTI DSG. The GTI DSG is probably the fastest car in a straight line because the DSG is that good. IMO, the GTI also has a better interior, if I had to pick between them. The aftermarket for the GTIs is also a lot bigger than what's available in the Focus ST.
Earlyon almost all Focuses had transmission problems from 2012 - 2015. There were some changes in programming, change of hardware, new versions of the TCM that improved the problems. Once I got hardware fixes of the transmission in 2016, and reprogramming of the TCMs I have had no problems. I have yet to find out what percentage of focuses
